Really this is about me. (even though if it wasn’t for the dozens of friends and employees through the years, I would not be writing this) I have a few passions rope hammocks, Surfboards and candles are my passions.
This started in 1966 when a friend took me to see the surf movie The Endless Summer. I was hooked and never looked back. By the time college started some 7 years later, I had already been working in a surf shop and doing surfboard repairs. Off to college and I get a job at the local Wrightsville beach surf shop, Surf n Stuff. Now as fate would happen the owner also had a hammock business and that is where I learned to weave hammocks.
Within the next 2 years I had the itch to open my own hammocks shop. While traveling during holiday to Indialantic Fla., I thought this is where I will open a hammock shop, hand making rope hammocks and selling gifts which little did I know this is where I would get a passion for candles also learning to make candles from my new girlfriend. Good surf, warm weather and tourists.
And the adventures continue. Next up I sold the hammock shop and moved to the North Shore of Hawaii looking for bigger waves and adventures. This is where I learned to build surfboards. After a year of apprenticeship, I was ready to go home. The beaches of my youth in North Carolina were calling.
1981 I opened Salt Water Hammocks and the same year Hot Wax Surf Shop, and yes I also sold tropical oriented candles. We will skip the next 10 years and I sold my stores and moved a little south to Carolina Beach NC to build surfboards and open another hammock shop.
Skip another 25 plus years filled with so many things, I opened 2 Night clubs, Freaky Tiki Country Club and just The Freaky Tiki, but alway kept building a few hammocks and surfboards.
Today, and what great journey it has been and continues to be,In 2010 I started an online business importing and selling rope hammocks and now making unique hand pour candles. BooBamBlue candle Co. was born. For me things always start out with a bang. So my brother happens to own the largest surf shop in the area and I now have to perfect place to sell and test my candles and of course do all the surfboard repairs for the shop, which is naturally names Hot wax Surf Shop. Such a full circle and still going strong.
Look around, enjoy a hand woven hammocks, sip on a Mai Tai from our tiki mugs and doze off the smell of the tropics in one of my hand poured candles.
